Should Christians actively advance a political agenda?

Emerging Discussions

THE CHURCH AS A CITIZEN

By being stellar citizens as Jesus said “give Caesar what belongs to Caesar.” Paul persistently repeated in the epistles that Christians, even in a time of persecution, should be role model citizens by praying for our leaders. I am also reminded of the Centurion who sought out Jesus to heal his servant and Cornelius who got a visit from Paul. These were leaders from pagan backgrounds but drawn to Christian leaders, later becoming faithful followers of Christ. We can assume that the impact of encountering Christ spread in their leadership, just as God sought them out through Chrsitians like Peter and Paul.

Given that the Bible says that the Government is on the shoulders of Christ, we cannot but take responsibility as believers to advance the Kingdom of GOD Agenda through active engagement in politics.

I think it meant that Christ would have authority above all other authorities.
We should be at the frontline demonstrating the inscription of God on what leadership is.
The right application of Gods word would serve us good rather than using it to justify our own ideas. We have to be part of our countrys leadership, developement agenda to fully utilize our divine mandate to our nation as Christians.

The church is not a building, it is you and me. We must engage in politics because decisions made by politicians affect our lives. Next elections, we must be in the game, running for political office or supporting Christ followers who have stepped up to take office. Let the church show how its done this time around, for the benefit of God’s people.

I like it. We should explicitly support Christians or those likely to advance and defend Christian principles.

Christians need to be involved because we believe in a God who cares passionately about his world and his creation, and consequently how it is run. The Bible is hugely political – in that it is about how God wants people to behave and act towards him, and towards each other. This involves economics and law because these are tools that need to be used to build justice. So often it is injustice which dominates God’s world and this grieves him.
As believers in God we have much to bring to politics – a deeper commitment to justice and compassion which throughout history has made a difference in the political sphere through people like William Wilberforce, Lord Shaftesbury, Elizabeth Fry, Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu and many others.

A role of individual in political arena should be guided by Bible as the first constitution and then the governing constitution will follow.
As a Christian, he/she should show or be the mirror of good example and maintain high values of Christian.

In fact the balance between morality and law in our constitution is borrowed from the bible in exception of our own inputs as citizens of our beautiful country Kenya.
There is hope that we can join hands to make Kenya a nation that supports progress in all spheres of life.

It pleases God when unity exists in diversity. CHRISTIANS SHOULD WISELY ENGAGE IN ALL AFFAIRS OF THIS NATION PERTAINING GOVERNANCE TO SEE THE PRACTICAL CHANGE WE PRAY AND TRUST GOD FOR.
