Should the Church engage in politics?

THE CHURCH AS A CUSTODIAN

This will focus on the Church as custodian of moral, ethical, and societal values. The Church is expected to champion the building of the nation on strong values and appointment of leaders with sound moral foundation. How can the Church reposition herself as the moral conscience of the nation?

Christians need to be involved because we believe in a God who cares passionately about his world and his creation, and consequently how it is run. The Bible is hugely political – in that it is about how God wants people to behave and act towards him, and towards each other. This involves economics and law because these are tools that need to be used to build justice. So often it is injustice which dominates God’s world and this grieves him. As believers in God we have much to bring to politics – a deeper commitment to justice and compassion.
The key point is to realize that we are involved anyway; we have no choice about being political because if we choose not to engage then it is a vote for the status quo – the way things are.
Politics affects what we eat, how we dress, where we stay, where our children go for school, what life our young people leave after college/university and many more??????This is the time that many of us have been waiting, if the church make the bold step, I see a new Kenya and the future generation will be proud of their spiritual forefathers. I look forward for the debate

The church already is involved in politics and you raise very good points about its positive roles and the inevitability. The challenge arises of campaigns on the pulpit, as seen in the waves of harambees being a catalyst for church and politics interaction in the recent years.

The Church plays an important role in the spiritual guidance & upbringing of citizens. This being the fact, therefore the church should also be allowed to actively be involved in politics. Why? A spiritual guidance leads to good ethical practices. With spirituality at hand, corruption, tribalism, bribery,” all sorts of illegal connections” and toxic politics will be a thing of the past.In the book of – Psalm 118:8 we are being told that “It’s far better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust any human.” For the Lord will never fail us.

Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.During the 18th century, the ideas of Locke and Bayle, in particular the separation of Church and State, became more common, promoted by the philosophers of the Age of Enlightenment. Montesquieu already wrote in 1721 about religious tolerance and a degree of separation between religion and government.Currently, the law prohibits political campaign activity by charities and churches by defining a 501(c)(3) organization as one “which does not participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public …THE CHURCH AS A CUSTODIAN
